How long is the shelf life of your products?

The expiry date is clearly printed on the information sheet in the sample size bottle and printed on the box of the 30ml bottle
Due to the nature of our products they are completely free from any preservatives. Our products are anhydrous, they do not contain water.
For this reason, they do not need a preservative, as bacteria requires water to grow. However, plant oils can go rancid /off and just need an antioxidant. The shelf life is extended by antioxidants naturally present in the oils, the addition of an organic anti -oxidant Rosemary Co2 Extract and the containers.

Why are your products in the form of oils?

We want to create products that are as natural as possible. This type of formulation allows us to stay away from many unwanted ingredients. The correct selection of oils makes efficient cleansers, moisturisers, serums and body oils.

What does ‘cold pressed unrefined oils’ mean?

The majority of the ingredients in our skin care range   are Organic cold pressed unrefined plant oils, other ingredients are Co2 extracted organic plant oils, distilled Organic essential oils and Organic antioxidants together with natural active ingredients  that have powerful  therapeutic and beneficial properties that assist with skin regeneration .

When plant oils are ‘cold pressed’ it means that they are extracted under a certain temperature, therefore heat sensitive nutrients, such as vitamin C and omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids are not affected.

Refining oils can rob them of the skin beneficial nutrients, and it may even leave undesirable chemical residues. Refining plant oils is a common practice as it leads to an extended shelf life. Refining also involves bleaching to remove what some consider undesirable colour and reduces aroma (some seed, nut and fruit pulp oils such as Rosehip have rather strong smells). Although such processed oils could still be an effective cleanser and even moisturiser it would lack the nutrients to repair and nourish the skin.

The shelf life of some unrefined oil is shorter, because they are rich in easily oxidised essential fatty acids. This issue is addressed by including other anti-oxidant rich oils in the formulas. They not only benefit the skin but also add to the stability of the products.

      Are essential oils safe?

Essential oils are highly concentrated, therapeutic agents with multiple benefits for mind, body and spirit. But bear in mind that they require respect and basic understanding and knowledge  therapeutic applications.
There is so much information (and often misinformation) available about essential oils out in the world and online that it can be hard to know who or what to trust.
While literally anyone can buy “essential oils” nearly everywhere online, the quality of what is readily available on the common market is terrible and very often not even close to what may be represented on the label. Adulteration, dilution, improper labelling and misrepresentation of quality or type of processing, as well as genus species, is prevalent. There is little to no regulation on what is sold, and essentially zero enforcement. This is a pandemic issue and one that is rarely talked about. You may think you are sensitive to essential oils after reacting to a natural product, when the case may actually be that you are responding to that particular source, quality or (often unknown even to the brand) undisclosed ingredient within that essential oil.
Essential oils are powerful tools and can function like medicine for the skin. As with all medicine, proper dosing is important.
I use essential oils with total respect for ratio and balance to achieve formulas that are as safe as they are beautiful and effective. Equally important with essential oils is the source, quality and processing.

Distilled essential oil’, what does this mean?

A true essential oil is extracted from plant material by one of the following two methods - distillation or expression.
Some essential oils expressed from citrus peels are known to be photo-toxic. The citrus oil we use is distilled to naturally exclude the photo toxic components.

Other types of oils, sometimes referred to as essential oil, but not ‘true’ essential oils are absolutes and Co2 extracts.

Absolutes, such as rose and jasmine, are extracted using solvents and alcohol. We do not use absolutes in our formulations.

Co2 extraction involves the use of carbon dioxide instead of solvent – it is a good method of extraction from organically grown plants.

How do I carry out a patch test?

The skin on the inside of the wrist or the forearm is the best area on which to carry out a patch test. It can also be carried out on the skin behind your ear, especially if you suspect that only your face is sensitive. Simply apply the product to the area and if any irritation occurs, such as a rash, a burning, prickly or tingling sensation, redness or any other temporary discoloration of the skin, remove the product immediately with warm water and a damp cloth. Try and leave the patch test on for 48 hours and perform this test twice.

Can I use UliveOrgsnic products if I am pregnant or breast feeding?

Our products contain a small amount of essential oils.
The essential oils in the formulations are currently considered safe to use in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Our entire collection is safe for pre-conception, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and beyond. These are the perfect treats to keep in your skincare arsenal as you navigate the hormone fluctuations and skin concerns that go right along with this powerful time.
